Condo boards and fraud; the Legislature acts

Obviously, there are pros and cons to condo living. One of the main negatives are the condo boards controlled by unscrupulous, power-hungry people. It has gotten so bad that the State Legislature finally had to act. How bad? Enough to warrant felony charges with the possibility of prison time for violators.

The Miami Herald reports: "Under the new law, fraud in the election of condo association directors, the falsification of signature ballots, the manipulation of condo records and the theft or disappearance of ballots will be considered serious violations that could be punished with prison terms."

It doesn't apply to all boards so a careful understanding of the bill is needed.

The bill now awaits the governor's signature. For the full text of the bill, click here.
